Note: ome of her grandparents located at 15 Commercial Road, Footscray. On the morning that she was born the attending doctor, Dr Dodd, and the assisting nurse, Sister Clark, noting that with her mother, Winsome, having double pneumonia at the time, the baby would be certain to have a cold. This was not to be and Rhonda has very rarely had either colds or flu throughout her life. An enquiry made to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Melbourne for a full birth certificate, as required before marriage, revealed an error stating Rhonda's date of birth was 16th June 1940. As there were no existing doctor's or clinical records available, these having been destroyed by fire some years before, the Registrar reluctantly amended the document, by handwritten annotation, to 6th June 1940 when it was pointed out that the registration of birth had been made, by Rhonda's grandmother, in the Registrar's office on the 7th June 1940. BIOGRAPHY: Rhonda attended the Geelong Rd. State School and then Footscray Girls Secondary School. At age 15, on Friday, 02 December 1955, she started a four year apprenticeship in Ladies Hairdressing in a city salon, owned by Lillian Franks, and operating under vice regal patronage, It was located in Howey Court, Collins Street , Melbourne. The business manageress was Miss Randell who did not wish to put Rhonda on as she was not from one of the prestigious ladies colleges around Melbourne. After only a couple of months on probation she was offered full apprenticeship indenture. The salon was subsequently bought, in 1957, by a restaurateur turned hairdresser, Mr John. Rhonda trained there until she finished her four year apprentice indenture. After working in city for a short period afterwards she obtained the opportunity to work in a local salon in Kingsville, owned by a Mrs Margaret Phelan. As this offer did not entail the daily train travel from Seddon into Melbourne city this option was taken up on 8th December 1959. Margaret has remains a close personal friend ever since. Due to Margaret's marital problems at that time Rhonda became her 'confidante' and took over the management of the Kingsville salon in times of stress. In 1961 she accepted an offer from Goble's Chemist and Hairdressing business in Barkly Street, Footscray to manage the ladies salon. Due to her intervention she obtained better working conditions for the salon staff and correct 'time-off' for the hours worked overtime during each week. In 1962 re-joined Margaret Phelan's employ when requested by her to assist her, during a difficult period, and had overall management of three salons at Thornbury, Kingsville and East Ivanhoe. Rhonda had prime management of the East Ivanhoe salon. After experience managing these salons, Rhonda bought a rundown salon at 213 Somerville Road, Kingsville, on 11 November, 1963, and within a few months had a viable thriving business built up. After being married in January 1965 she gained employment at the only ladies hairdressing salon (sole agency) at the restricted rocket range village at Woomera, South Australia and worked there until just before her first son, Warren, was born in December 1965. She had maintained her Kingsville business until it was sold, in May 1965, when absentee ownership from Woomera made it impossible to maintain control over questionable staff actions that were then ruining the business. A new manageress had been appointed at Easter of 1965 and was making the business again a going concern. As a contract of sale had been signed in the interim she could not hold onto the business.
