b. Note:   e two people were born three children, one of whom was August. The other two children died in early childhood. August was born March 31, 1864. As was the practice in Sweden, August took his father's first name John and added son, so his name was August Johnson. August was just about five months old when his father died, August 19, 1864. Anna Gustafson Larson and her son came to the United States in 1869, and came to Kansas in 1870. In 1874 she married C.G. Furman. August told of living in a "dug out" along the river. The 80 acres where the home was built was called the "Home Place". He told of building the first room which now would be about 65 years old (1961). Rooms were added as needed. August Johnson and Lillie A. Odell were married in 1903. They had three children: Charles Edward, Clarence Linden, and John Laurence, of whom Charles is the only one living. He married Winona Leedy. They have two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Ely and she has two sons, Charles and John; and Charlene. August Johnson was known and respected for his honesty and knowledge of the breeding of Hereford cattle. A letter post marked in the early 1900's was addressed as such "August Johnson, Clearwater, Kansas, The breeder of Fine Hereford Cattle." A note of interest - in 1904 hogs sold for $4.50 per 100 lbs. and cattle $4.20 per 100 lbs. There are many fond memories of deeds and stories of August Johnson that space doesn't permit us to write about.
Note:   In 1856 John Larson and Anna Gustofsan were married in Sweden. To thes
