Mrs. Agness Odell Passes Away Friday
After an illness of practically ten years, which had sapped her strength and left but a frail bark to carry her spirit onwards, Mrs. Agness C. Odell answered the summons on January 2 and departed for her heavenly home. Agness C. Berry was born at Green Castle, Ind., May 1, 1843. At the age of twelve she moved with her parents to Matton, Indiana. Here she met and married Clarence L. Odell on March 7, 1859. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive their mother, Joshua died in infancy and James at the age of forty one. After a long and happy life together Mr. Odell left his life mate on March 22, 1915, preceding her in death practically ten years. In October, 1884, Mr. and Mrs. Odell came to seek their future home in the new west, settling in Sedgwick county where they resided practically the rest of their lives. A few years were spent in Barber county, where Mr. Odell died. Since his death, she has made her home among her children where the was always received in open arms. Mrs. Odell has been a member of the Methodist church since girlhood and burial was made from that church in our city on January 3, Rev. Sampson delivering the words of comfort to those who remained. Interment was made in the Clearwater cemetery. Her long period of suffering was almost a constant time of prayer to her heavenly Father for relief, and the savior's words in the Garden were frequently upon her lips, "My my, God why hast thou forsaken me". The following children were left to hold the memory of their departed mother dear in their hearts: Mrs. S.E. Jones, Haysville, KS, William Odell of Etna, Mrs. J.H. Bowman of Clearwater, Mrs. August Johnson of Clearwater, Mrs. J.A. Hudson of Sawyer, Arthur Odell, Etna, Mrs. C.M. Stanton, Liberal and Mrs. J.C. Ogden of Wichita.
