Note: Virginia W. Altman, 96, Camas Prairie resident Grangeville - Virginia W. Altman, 96, a lifetime Grangeville area resident and Camas Prairie farmer, died Thursday at the Grangeville Care Center of causes related to age.
She was born Nov. 21, 1901, to John and Maude Wells Ely at Kalispell, Mont. They moved to Grangeville area when she was 7 and she attended Grangeville schools.
She married William Altman on April 4, 1920, at Grangeville.
Together they farmed on the Camas Prairie for more than 60 years.
He died in November 1981.
She moved to the Grangeville Care Center in January 1996.
She enjoyed sewing and reading.
She is survived by one son, John Altman of Grangeville; one daughter, Dorothy Powers of Spokane; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Letha Lee and Rachel Berg.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Noland-Blackmer Funeral Home at Grangeville.
A graveside service is set for 1 p.m. Monday at Prairie View Cemetery at Grangeville. The Rev. Robert Korytkowski of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.
