Note: Rites for Jess E. Ely Final rites for Jess E. Ely, 87, prominent Ralls County farmer, were held Sunday afternoon at the Wilkey Funeral Home in Center at 2 p.m. with Rev. E.R. Wall officiating. Burial was in the Center cemetery. Mr. And Mrs. Bill Cornelius were vocalists accompanied by Mrs. Art Bramblett. Pallbearers were Jack, Eddie and Lewis Palmer Jr., R.E. Allen, Walter Roland and Cleve Snodgrass. Mr. Ely passed away early Friday morning at Blessing Hospital after suffering a stroke several weeks ago. He was born near Center, December 8, 1880 the son of William H. and Amanda Liter Ely. On November 2, 1903 he was married to Addie Elzea, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Mary Nete) Painter of Hannibal, Mrs. Jack (Ada Ruth) Cannon of Quincy, one granddaughter, Mrs. Betty Robinson, Quincy, two great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Natalie Ely Frier and two nieces, Mrs. John Rice, of Monroe City and Mrs. Robert Eck of Rolla. One sister, Roberta, passed away 42 years ago. Mr. Ely was a Baptist, had served as a member of the Ralls County R-II school board, was a member of the Ralls County Farm Bureau for many years and was president of the Ralls County Fire Insurance Company at the time of his death. Don Palmer related that Jesse Ely's right arm is missing. He was told that it was severed by a train's wheel when he was a child.
