  Tom Dowen, 86, a Lewistown resident since 1926, died Tuesday, June 18, at the Central Montana Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
  He was born Sept. 9, 1904, in Chinook. Mont., a son of Rupert and Mildred Dowen, and received his education in Chinook. In 1918, he went to work for the Ford Garage in Chinook. On Nov. 29, 1923, he was united in manage to Grace Hutchinson in Fort Benton. In 1926, they moved to Lewistown and Mr. Dowen started the Dowen Chevrolet Auto Dealership.
  His dealerships were located in several places in Lewistown until 1939 when he sold the Chevrolet dealership and went into the Oldsmobile auto dealership. He was the owner/operator of Dowen Motors, which handled Oldsmobile, Cadillac and GMC trucks. He sold the dealership in 1968 and retired.
  During his years in the auto business, he served on the National Dealer Council for General Motors Corporation. He served on the state and national boards of the American Cancer Society and on the board of the Lewistown Area Chamber of Commerce. He was on the building committees at the Community Hotel and the Central Montana Hospital. In the 1940s, he served on the Board of School District No. 1 and was its chairman.
  Mr. Dowen was a member al the Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Rotary Club, Lewistown Lodge No. 37, A.F. & A.M., serving as Master in 1931, and was Dean of Past Masters at the time of his death.
  Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Don (Nancy) Poush of Lewistown; two sons, Tom Dowen, Jr., of Chicago. IL., and Charles N. Dowen of New York, NY.: three granddaughters: Sarah Green of Great Falls, Laurie Curtiss of Concord, CA, and Beth Dowen of Minneapolis, MN.; five grandsons: Douglas Poush of St. Clairsville, OH, Kent Poush at Seattle. WA., Tom Dowen, III, of Seminole, FL., Eric Dowen of Chicago, IL., and John Poush of Anaconda;
  Two sisters, Alta Mallon of Lewistown and Helen Hebert of Chinook: five brothers: Grover Dowen and James Dowen, both of Havre, Frank Dowen of Cottonwood, AZ., Val Dowen al Everett, WA., and Jennings Dowen of Caldwell, ID:
 five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Grace, in 1988: one son, Richard, in 1951: and by several brothers and sisters.
  Funeral services for Tom Dowen will be held Monday, June 24, at 2 p m at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Gordon E. Parke officiating. The casket will be open far viewing until the time of the funeral. Interment will be in the Lewistown City Cemetery.
  Memorials to the Central Montana Medical Foundation are preferred by the family and may be left at the funeral home. The Creel-Morrison-Retz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
