Note:   N32 After arriving in Dubuque Jacob Hedrick went to live with his Neipoth (Niebboldt) grandparents and used the name Jacob Neiboldt until he was a young man when he took back his birth name of Hedrick, spelling it with a K at the end. This accocunt confirmed by 1850 census, in which Jacob NEBALT, age 17, is listed as living with Casper and Mary NEBALT; all three have Germany listed as their birthplace.
  Hame spelled HETERICH in 1860 census. Name spelled HETTRICH in 1870 census.
  Real estate valued at $100 in 1860 census; Personal estate valued at $200.
  JACOB HEDRICK, farmer and gardener, Sec. 35; P. O. Dubuque; born May 1, 1832, in Germany; when a year old, he came with his parents to Pennsylvania in 1836, and thence migrated to Dubuque Co.; owns 120 acres of land. He married Barbara Esslinger in 1854; she was born in Pennsylvania; they have eight children - Jacob, William, Mary, Louisa, Mena, Emma, George and Emil; Frank was accidentally shot in 1878 (aged 14 years), by his brother George, while playing with fire-arms.

  JACOB HENDRICK [sic] IS DEAD
 Good Man Called from His Home in Peru After Long and Useful Life
 Jacob Hedrick died on May 30th [1908] aged seventy-five years, at his home in Peru. Mr. Hedrick was born in Hessen, Germany and came to this country when one year old. He was reared and educated in Dubuque and was a plasterer by trade. For many years previous to his death he was engaged in the gardening business at which he was most successful. His wife died fourteen months ago and from that time on Mr. Hedrick had been in failing health. He was a member of Zion's church and assisted in many ways in upbuilding the same. Mr. Hedrick is survived by eight children, Jacob Hedrick, Jr., Wm. Hedrick, Mrs. Wm. Abitz, Mrs. Jacob Eickert, Mrs. Edward Muntz, Mrs. Albert Scheppele, Emil Hedrick, also by five brothers and one sister.
 The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon from his home in Peru to Zion's church, thence to Linwood Cemetery.
