(Source: records consulted at Norfolk County courthouse on 5 June 2012 by Sybil Grace and Tim Smith) ______________________________________________________ Text of his obituary: Railway Pioneer Called by Death A pioneer of the district during construction days on the Canadian Pacific ailway, William Strachan, of Waterford, Ontario, near Simcoe, uncle of W. J. Strachan, Fort William, died last night at 8:30 o'clock, according to word received here by Mr. Strachan. He was 80 years old. Born at Toronto Mr. Strachan came to this district and worked on the construction of the C. P. R. at Red Rock, east of here. At the time, he was associated with the late Peter McKellar. He later moved west where he farmed for many years near Portage La Prairie. About 30 years ago he went east to retire on a large fruit fram at Waterford. Besides his widow, he is survived by one son Alexander, a member of the R.C.A.F. in training at Rivers, Man. A sister, Miss Kate Strachan, resides in Waterford. Mrs. B. Strachan, of Fort William, is a sister-in-law, and W. J. and Jack Strachan, who is in Toronto on business, are nephews. Funeral arrangements are not known as yet.
