a. Note:   N81 From Mary Murphy's Research Report:
  William Strachan was born in about 1835 in Scotland. His baptism record was found in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and provided a baptism date of 1 November 1834 and parent names James Strachan, a confectioner, and Margaret Connel (4). The surname of William's mother Margaret was transcribed as Purnell on his marriage record index; however, the baptism record was available and Margaret's surname was clearly Connel. A record of a William Strachan with a mother Purnell was never found throughout all the baptism records for a William Strachan on the online resource Scotland's People. At the age of 29 William married Catharine Swinton on 25 November 1863 in Ontario (5). William's birthplace on his marriage record was simply noted as "Scotland Village."
