 A resident of the Lakehead for the past 50 years, Mrs. Bella Strachan, 77, Suite 16 Dyke Block, Fort William, died in hospital there this morning. Although in ailing health for some time Mrs Strachan's death was unexpected.
 Born in Kincardine, Ont., July 12, 1870, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Annie McLeod. Her family moved to Bruce Mines, where she received her education. She later moved to the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. Cunningham, at Rossport, where they operated a hotel.
 Married to John Strachan in St. Paul's Church, Port Arthur in 1891 the couple lived at Rossport, Schreiber, and Nipigon, moving to Port Arthur in 1897. Her husband, employed on the C.P.R. in the Bridge and Building Department, predeceased her in 1912 at Port Arthur.
 Mrs. Strachan had been living in Fort William for the past 30 years.
 Surviving are two sons, William J. Strachan, 324 South Marks, Street, and John A. Strachan, 240 North Syndicate Avenue. Three sons, Russell, Melvin [emphasis added], and Arthur, predeceased her.
 Grandchildren are Mrs. John Cooke, 125 Bethune Street, Fort William; Eleanor and Ruth Strachan of St. Vital, Man., and Sybil, Billy, and Margaret Strachan, Fort William. Mrs. Lillian Carson, 529 Red River Road, Port Arthur, is a niece.
 Mrs. Strachan was of member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and of Greenstone Rebekah Lodge.
 The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:45 from the chapel, 236 South Syndicate Avenue to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Fort William for service at 2 o'clock. Rev. H. ? Rice, First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot, Riverside Cemetery, Port Arthur.

  One of Bella's sister married a Carson(?), another married a Cunningham, another married a Monroe. (From Sybil Grace, June 2012). A June Monroe was chief librarian in St. Catharines in 1970; had been in National Library.
