  Baptized at Beechingstoke, 10 Aug 1823, as George, s. Thomas & Mary Beak of Beechingstoke, father a laborer, by Chs. Mayo, Rector. [Microfiche record of baptisms at WSRO - photo in my possession]
  Marriage registered at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, Sep 1848, as George Beak & Clara Lavinia Miles. [GRO Index 6:463]
  In 1850, lived at Millwall, London, England Worked as a Boiler maker for the Great Eastern Railway. [Obituary of daughter Charlotte Jane Willis]. The first four children were baptized at West Ham Church. The rest were baptized at Devizes St. Mary.
  1881 British Census lists him as Head of Household at 9 New Park Street, Devizes St. Mary, aged 57, Born at Bottlesford, Wiltshire [about a mile from Beechingstoke], and occupation as Publican. This was the address of the White Hart Inn, which he owned.
  From Percy Beak: Aged "36" at Devizes, 1861 [Census]; died aged "78" 3 Feb 1901, retired, former innkeeper of Devizes [GRO & Will]; name spelt Beak at marriage, Bake for some earlier children, but Beake in later Devizes entries. Married at Bierton, Bucks, when he was a foundry worker at Plaistow, Essex [MC] Will dated 31 July 1883, Innkeeper, of Devizes. Mentions wife Clara Lavinia Beake and daughter Georgina, wife of Alexander Traylen. Codicil [1], dated 11 Apr 1889: States that the testator was retired & living at Nursteed, ... that his son John Beake has now for some time past been dead. Codicil [2] dated 25 July 1896: Now of No. 4, The Green, Devizes, mentions daughter Henrietta Carey & son Alfred Beake [advances to be deducted from their shares of the estate]. Codicil [3] dated 5 June 1897: Son Alfred Beake has had another advance. Codicil [4] date 14 Jun 1899: Trustee executor Randall having died, testator replaces him by his daughter Mary Elizabeth Beake, spinster. In 1901 he lived at 4 Southbroom Terrace, Devizes St James.
  Probate given as: George Beake of 4 the Green, Devizes, Wiltshire, died 3 February 1901. Probate London 5 March to Frederick Sortain Hancock, solicitor, and Mary Elizabeth Beake, spinster.   From an old, undated newspaper clipping: "Golden Wedding: Numerous congratulations from their family and friends reached Mr. and Mrs. Beake of 4, Southbroom Terrace on Sunday, which was the 50th anniversary of their wedding day. Mr. and Mrs. Beake are both natives of All Cannings, but the marriage took place at Bierton Bucks, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. C. Elton, a former Rector of Stanton. Mrs. Beake's maiden name was Clara Lavinia Miles. She was able to go out for a chair ride this week, the first time for two years."
