a. Note:   Birth registered Sep 1857 Devizes [BVRI vol. 5a, p. 91]. Aged 4 in 1861 census, born in Rowde, living with parents in Rowde. Listed as Clara Jane "Geddings", aged 13, in 1871 census, in Rowde. In 4 Apr 1881 census listed as wife, aged 23, in husband's household, 505 Hackney Road, London, Middlesex, England. Birthplace given as Devizes.
  Clara Smith (aged 42, born at Devizes) was with husband Alfred Smith (aged 40, builder's manager, born in London) at Epsom Surrey [1901]. I have not traced this wedding, but her identity is confirmed by the "step-children" Mabel Woodcock (21, born in London) and Albert Beake (19, born London). There were 6 other children with them: Bessie Smith (14), Alfred Smith (13), born in London; Mildred Smith (9), Ernest Smith (8), Claude Smith (6), and Maggie Smith (3), all born at Birmingham. It is plausible that Bessie Smith was the Bessie Florence Beake born in 1886. I have not found any plausible 1891 census entry for Clara.
