a. Note:   Marriage recorded at Waltham as Hadley P. Hanson of Boston, 30, Book Keeper, b. China, Me., son of James Hanson; and Mary F. Marsh of Waltham, 21, b. Amesbury, dau. of Thos. J. Marsh; first marriage for both, on 14 May 1854, by Rev. M. L. Bickford.
  A memoir of Luther Atwood in NEHGR describes his mother as Catherine Lucy Marsh, born at Lynn [Essex, Massachusetts] 13 Feb 1837, daughter of Hon. Thomas Jefferson and Nancy Falls [Davis] Marsh. She and Luther Sr. were married 1 Jan 1857 in Waltham. by Rev. M. L Bickford. See notes for parents and siblings as well.
  Her birthplace is given as Amesbury in several places: her marriage record, her daughter's death certificate, and her own death certificate among them. However, her birth is not listed in the published Amesbury Vital Records. On 27 March 2006 I called the Amesbury Town Clerk's office, and a search there revealed no birth record, either. On 30 March 2006 I received a certified death certificate from the Town of Holbrook, Norfolk, Massachusetts, which was her place of residence [with her daughter Carrie's family] at the time of her death. This gives: place of death as Everett, MA; age 85 years 4 months 0 days; her place of birth as Amesbury; her parents' names; cause of death as myocarditis; burial at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston, 24 Dec 1917. Her parents' birthplaces are both listed as Brentwood [Rockingham] NH, which is the next town to Exeter as given in other sources, so this is a new lead to pursue.
  Her son, William G. Hanson, was a surgeon at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, so I think that is probably where she died.
