Note: Our Wedding: 7 June 1944 My story takes place in the early part of 1944. My fiance and I decided to get married. Both being in the Armed Forces of different countries we had a few obstacles to overcome. Finally the day arrived. I left my home in Wales on the morning of June 7 for a small village in Northhamptonshire. I was then introduced to the strangers who had planned our wedding. The Minister came to the house to talk to both of us. Then he left, my fiance and best man also left for the Church and then the maid of honor and myself. We arrived on time but no where could be found the groom and best man. The maid of honor knowing her way around went looking for them, couldn't find them and needless to say the bride was reduced to tears thinking she'd been jilted. Finally they turned up. What had happened was that when they asked where the Church was they were directed to the Parrish Church. The Rector said he didn't think there was to be a wedding there but he would check into it. In the meantime they could look around the ancient church. He finally found out they were looking for the Methodist Chapel and so they were sent to the correct church with very little time before the black out. So while the bride was in tears, the bridesmaid out looking for the groom who was with the best man down under the old church looking at old bones in a crypt. Finally we were united in Holy Matrimony.
