Notes
a. Note:   ke Waldrop by his first wife who remains unknown atthis time, but may have been a Williams. Christian is thought to beLuke's third wife. James served in the Revolutionary War as Pvt.,Lt.,and Cpt. from South Carolina. James bought land in Newberry County SC. in1765 and received a land grant in Newberry County SC. on 1 Sep 1772.
It is possible that this James was a salt dealer who found himself incourt in Williamsburg Virginia in February of 1776 and was fined forbearing arms agains the Colony [against the King]. He may have had landalong the James River in Chesterfield County Va. mentioned in 1797. He mayalso be the "wealthy" Waldrop mentioned in the 1790 tax list in KingWilliam County Va. James' wife is mentioned in a letter to GeorgeWashington from Mrs. Fairfax concerning General Braddock's liking MaryWaldrop's cooking. James was also believed to be a member of the FirstOhio Company which was a land speculation company. I cannot prove any ofthese possibilites at present.
Will recorded Box 21, Package 6; written 25 May 1798, probated 30 July1799; Will book B, page 328. Appraisers were named 30 Sep 1799: JohnFloyd, Samuel Henderson, Reuben Griffin, Charles Pitts. Samuel Hendersonwas among the buyers at the estate.
Note: Some accounts settled in 1800 included payments to AmbroseHudgens, John Brownlee, and James Young, all linked by marriage tofamilies of Samuel and James Henderson.
See page 520, History of Clayton Co GA. Captain James Waldrop, son of Luke and Christian Waldrop b. Amelia CoVA ca 1735, d. Newberry Dist SC 30 Jun 1799. He moved with his family toGranville Co NC abt 1760, and appears on record there with his wife Mary, who is believed to have been Mary Henderson, of the Granville CoHenderson Family. (The Henderson name has been used consistently amongthe descendants of Mary Waldrop. The Hendersons of Granville Co wereestablished by Robert Henderson who had lands on the Pamunky River in VA,in 1666. The Pamunky forms the lower boundary of King Williams Co, whereMichael Wardrope received his first grant in 1699. Thus, it appears thatthe Henderson and Waldrop families had been acquainted for many years andmigrated to the Carolinas together. The most noted member of theGranville Co Henderson Family was Judge Richard Henderson, later ofSalisbury NC, whose dreams of empire led him to make private treatieswith the Indians, in which he secured title to the bulk of the presentstates of KY and TN. On learning of these treaties, the government of VA,nullified Judge Henderson's claims to all but 10,000 acres of land wherethe city of Henderson, KY, now stands. Historical accounts refer to JudgeHenderson as a wealthy aristocrat of Salisbury. His lineage is given inWorth S Ray, TENNESSEE COUSIN.)
James and Mary Waldrop made their home in Granville Co and in 1772,recieved land grants in Newberry Dist SC from Lord Charles GrevilleMontague. By grant and deed, James Waldrop acquired extensive lands onthe Saluda, Broad and Enoree Rivers in Laurens and Newberry Districts. These properties totalled to several thousand acres.
During the Revolutionary War, James Waldrop served in the Carolinamilitia (performing service in both North and SC). Records show that heserved as a private, lieutenant and captain. After the war, he resumedthe occupation of planter on his Enoree River plantation. By gift andbequest, he provided each of his children with substantial properties. His widow Mary had the use of the plantation and slaves for the remainderof her life. She d. in Newberry Dist, 5 Dec 1801.
James and Mary Waldrop were parents of the following children: John,David, Solomon, Samuel, Richard Henderson, James, Elijah, Elisha, Abrahamand Writter.
Will at SC Archives; Newberry Co, Vol 1, Book B, written 25 May 1798,recorded 2 Oct 1799, Executors - Solomon and James Waldrop. Children mentioned: John, David, Solomon, Samuel, Richard Henderson, James, Elijah, Abraham, Isaac, Mary (Mrs Abner Pitts), and Writter.

For the most part, information on this line came from John Lyle Waldroop and Terry James Waldrop.
I have Ann Wardrope born About 1776 married to John Holland Sr. born Aboth 1773. You can find them at rootsweb.
From the note files I found the following notes:
"For the most part, information on this line came from John Lyle Waldroop and Terry James Waldrop."
And I do not know who these people are. I tried to track them down line but no luck. One of the main researchers must have gotten this information from these people.
I did a little more checking on files used to compile the database and I was able to locate the submitter. It was Howard Waldrop. Here is his email address:

  Mr. Hicks,
I was referred to you by my cousin who said you may have information on Ann Waldrope who was married to James or John Holland. We are trying to link her to James Holland born 1799. All information we have indicates she was his mother, but we have nothing conclusive. Any additional information you could offer would be appreciated as we have reached a dead-end.
  Thanks,
 Bob Holland
Note:   James lived in Granville County NC., and Newberry County SC. James wasprobably a son of Lu
