Note:   , respectfully represents that her maiden name was Hattie J White that she was Lawfully married to said John W Omar at said Topsfield on 28 JUL 1877, by William F Johnson, Esq., a Justice of the Peace, that they lived together as husband and wife in said Topsfield from the time of their marriage until the year 1884 when they removed to Brewer in said state, and there lived together as husband and wife; that your Libellant has always conducted herself towards her said husband as a faithful, true and affectionate wife; thats aid John W Omar has treated your libellant with cruel and abusive treatment; that she has made diligent inquiry, but has not been able to ascertain and does not know the residence of the said John W Omar; that there is no collusion between your libellant and the said John W Omar to obtain a divorce. Wherefore she prays that such divorce may be decreed, and she may have the custody of her minor children, Alfred S Omar and Henry E Omar. Topsfield, ME, 12 MAR 1886, Hattie L Omar subscribed and sworn before William F Johnson This libel was filed in the Clerk's Office of this Court 23 MAR 1886 with the following order of notice, there on viz State of Maine, Washington County, Machias, 19 MAR 1886. Upon the foregoing Libel Ordered that the Libellant give notice to said John W Omar to appear before the Justice of our Supreme Judicial Court, to be holden at Calais within and for the County of Washington on the Fourth Tuesday of April 1886, by publishing an attested copy of said libel, and this order thereon, three weeks successively in any newspaper printed in our county of washington, the last publication to be fourteen days at least prior to said fourth Tuesday of april next that he may there and then in our said court appear and show cause if any he have why the prayes of said libellant should not be granted. John A Peters, Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court. And was entered in the Court at the April Term 1886 when and where said libellant appeared and said notice was proved as ordered and thence the same was continued to October Term 1886 when and wher4e the Court ordered personal service to be made on said Respondent and thence the same was continued to January Term 1887 when and where the Court again ordered personal service on said Respondent, and thence the same was continued to this term, when and where said Libellant appears, and it satisfactorily appearing to the Court upon hearing and evidence that the residence of the Libellee cannot be ascertained and that Libellant has not been able to ascertain it since the order of personal service, the Court hereby revokes the order for personal service and the case is heard upon the Notice first ordered by this Court that the allegations contained in ssaid Libel are true and it was therefore decreed by the Court that the said hattie j Omar be divorced Nisi from the Bonds of Matrimony between her and said John W Omar and the care and custody of said Alfred S Omar and Henry E Omar be committed to said Libellant until further order of Court. And on this 21 NOV 1887 being after six months from theentry of said decree, application is made by said John W Omar to the Clerk of the Court for the entry of final decree herein, and the Court not having otherwise ordered, the said decree is made Absolute and Final and all persons are hereby commanded to govern themselves accordingly. The libellant [Hattie J Omar] specifies tha following acts which are relied upon to prove the cruel and abusive treatment of the libellee [John W Omar], in the libel mentioned, namely: That on one occasion, in the fall of 1878, while [she] was sitting with her babe [Alfred S Omar] in her arms, [JWO] made an assault upon her, and did strike [her] with his fist on the side of her head, and by the blow did knock her down. That in January 1882, a week before the second child of [hers] was born, [JWO] again assaulted [her], did kick her out of bed, prevented her from returning to bed, and [she]was compelled to sit up all night in a cold room. That in 1884, [JWO] assaulted [her] with a stick of wood, and did strike her with said stick across the back, that [she] did not recover from the effects of said for several weeks. That in the year 1885 in May, [JWO] assaulted [her], and did kick her out of bed. That afterwards in the same month and year [he[ assaulted [her], and did grasp her by the arm, did push her across the room and against the wall - and [he] so injured the arm, and [she] did not recover from the injury for a period of more than three weeks. That in 1885, two days before [she] left Brewer to return to her father's house, finally, [JWO] assaulted [her], and did strike her on the arm and the side of the head, and did grasp her by the throat and choked her, and the marks of the said assault appeared and remained on [her] person for a long period thereafter. Three telegrams from TWO's lawyer in Boston, first on 16 NOV 1887, to "Clerk Supreme Court, Machias, ME, Is Harriet J Omar versus John Omar last year divorce made absolute. Please answer immediately at my expense. J F Wakefield" Then again on 16 NOV 1887, to " P H Logfellow, Machias, ME Please send blank application for defendant Omar to sign asking for absolute decree. He is here. After he signs it send me certificate of absolute divorce by return express with amount of fee. J F Wakefield". And then finally on 22 NOV 1887, again to "P H Longfellow, Is Omar absolute divorce on the way here. J F Wakefield" John Wilson Omar married Cora on 22 NOV 1887 in Boston, MA.
