a. Note:   e marriage info listed in his 2nd Marriage record incorrectly listed his parents as WILLIS and NANCY HOGWOOD, and the first one says WILLIS & NANCY POWELL. I've noticed that there were frequent instances like that between former slave families with the HAGWOOD/HOGWOOD surname who listed parents with POWELL surnames, and vice versa. It's probable that these were people who had been former slaves of one or the other of those slaveowning families whose slave families had been split between the HAGWOOD & POWELL slaveowners. Because of this, I believe that NED POWELL may have been a brother to MARY HAGWOOD who married to DANIEL NEWELL; MARY's parents were listed as WILLIS and NANCY HAGOOD in her Marriage Record.
