 In 1870, THOMAS and his brother, RICHARD, were living in a household with the white, JESSE VERSER, age 21. JESSE was the son of JOHN VERSER, b. 1820, the nephew of SUSANNAH WEST (1759-1871) widow of WILLIAM WEST (d. 1821), who had been the former slaveowner of NATHANIEL WEST a.k.a. MATTHEW EVANS (1760-1844), the ancestor of the free colored WEST family of Warren County. (see my files of MOURNING EVANS (b. 1760) and MATTHEW EVANS (b. 1760) for more details.
