Notes
a. Note:   Son of JACOB & DELLA DAVIS. Of interest is the fact that JACOB E. DAVIS was one of the witnesses at the marriage of JOSEPHINE VIRGINIA COPELAND (dau/of JOSEPH COPELAND & LOUISA MANLEY) to MARYLAND WEST (son of WILLIAM EVANS-WEST & MARY J. CARTER) in 1889 Warren County. He obviously was well known to the various members of the family since LOUISA MANLEY had remarried to JAMES THOMAS GREEN in 1877, and was JACOB's brother-in-law. Another witness at that wedding was TRIM C. DAVIS, b. 1860, and I do wonder if he was somehow related to JACOB.
JACOB E. DAVIS was a major part in the lawsuit filed in 1907 regarding the Estate of WILLIAM GREEN, the father of his wife, BETSY GREEN. According to the file, JACOB was apparently involved in some fraudulent activity in regards to the GREEN family land and was his actions were revealed when the case was decided by a jury. (See the file of WILLIAM A. GREEN, b. 1786, for details on the suit). According to family stories, JACOB E. DAVIS left town sometime after the land dispute involved in th the WILLIAM GREEN estate was settled in Court. I am not sure where he and his wife may have gone since I haven't found any record of their deaths, although it is possible that they both died sometime between 1910 and 1913, which was when North Carolina started requiring death certiificates.
