a. Note:   ith the STEPHEN HEDGEPETH Sr. family, who I believe was probably his grandfather. However, I am unsure who his mother was, although I did initially suspect it was ANNA HEDGEPETH; but his Death Certificate shows his mother as LUCILLE HEDGEPETH, and right now, I cannot identify who that may have been. The only person with that name was the wife of JAMES HEDGEPETH, b. 1823, but his family never had JOHN living anywhere near them.

 9/25/2010 Update:
 I think I have now solved the puzzle of who JOHN HEDGEPETH was, he was the son of CELIA HEDGEPETH, who died in 1860, leaving her young son to be raised by his grandfather, STEPHEN HEDGEPETH, and CELIA's sister, ANNA HEDGEPETH. His mother was called LUCILLE HEDGEPETH in JOHN's death certificate, but she was CEALY and CELIA, in the 1850 Census, and 1860 Mortality Schedule. JOHN was apparently born out of wedlock, and I do not know who his father was.
  9/13/2015 Update about DNA (DW)
 My DNA Matches have proven to be very interesting in connection with the HEDGEPETHs. I was previously not sure whether or not CELIA was a daughter of STEPHEN HEDGEPETH and his 1st UNKNOWN wife, or of MARTHA COPELAND, but with DNA showing that at least one descendant of CELIA HEDGEPETH is connected as about the 4th -5th cousin level,I now see that CELIA was a daughter by MARTHA COPELAND, who is my 4th great grandmother, at the right level for this DNA Match.
