a. Note:   nealogy papers, including the death records of their children, his wife was LAURA COPELAND. I now believe she was probably the daughter of BENJAMIN COPELAND & FRANCES HAWKINS. she was listed as LOUISA COPELAND, daughter of BENJAMIN COPELAND in 1870 and as L. E. COPELAND, 4 months old (abt Feb.1860) in 1860 with the family. I have many DNA matches where the only connection can be through LAURA, and those all have COPELAND & HAWKINS in common. Of interest, is that one of the Witnesses to JOHN HEDGEPETH's next marriage in 1892 to SARAH RICHARDSON, was J. H. COPELAND, probably JAMES H. COPELAND, a son of BENJAMIN COPELAND. Also, in the 1910 census, JOHN HEDGEPETH was living next to JAMES B. COPELAND, the son of BENJAMIN COPELAND JR., which also showed the family connection.
