Notes
a. Note:   Y HAGOOD by that time. POLLY was listed as POLLY NEWELL when she got married to GUSTON HAWKINS in 1873, but her parents names were indicated on that marriage record to be POWELLs, both still Living. I am not really certain that POLLY & DANIEL were actually ever married at any time because there is no record of a marriage for them in the Cohabitation Marriages for former slaves, and I don't see one for them afterwards, either. POLLY may have just taken DANIEL's surname for her marriage to HAWKINS, although I also have not found GUSTON HAWKINS in 1870.
POLLY was also apparently the mother of SUSANNAH POWELL, b. 1854, where it was stated that NED POWELL was the father on SUSANNAH's marriage record. I believe that it would have been the NED POWELL, b. abt 1820, who was already married to PHILLIS EDWARDS, since 1842, according to their Warren County Cohabitation Marriage Record; at the time of SUSANNAH's marriage in 1874, he was the only one called NED POWELL in Warren County. SUSAN NEWELL was living with POLLY (as PARLEY NEWELL in 1870, along with several of her other children with different 1st names. By 1880, as POLLY HAWKINS, age 70, but with children all listed with HAWKINS surname, I recognize her sons REUBEN NEWELL and GUSTON HAWKINS, identified by their marriage records, but there is also a LINCOLN HAWKINS, age 17 (b. abt 1863), who I don't know who he really was. He could have been either of her sons WILLIAM or ALEXANDER NEWELL, who were with her in 1870, or perhaps he was a son of her then deceased husband, GUSTON HAWKINS, but I haven't located any other records on any of them.
Note:   POLLY POWELL was apparently divorced from DANIEL NEWELL by 1868 because he got married to MAR
