a. Note:   ge record for her. She was called ELVIRA in the 1870 census and at first I thought it was a different person than the wife in 1880, however, marriage records for THOMAS & EMILY DAVIS' children indicated that both parents were still alive as late as 1889. My experience with researching the people of this time period is that they sometimes had different names in the census, as well as ages, and women in particular often downsized their ages as seems to be the case with EMILY DAVIS.
 EMILY was indicated to have been dead in the 1896 Marriage Record of their son, GARFIELD DAVIS, so she must have died sometime between 1889 and 1896.
Note:   EMILY DAVIS (?) not sure of what her maiden name may have been because haven't found a marria
