Notes
a. Note:   n Fork Township. Believe this is where JULIA/JUDY met PILOT/PILATE GREEN in her early years.
In. 1860 the white family of J.A. and M.C. DAVIS -age 27 and 22 respectively, at the time, who was a wealthy farmer with 40 slaves listed in the Slave Schedules for that year, lived next door to the WILLIAM GREEN Family, who were Free People of Color. On the other side of the GREEN Family, lived the white family of J.A. and SALLY D. PITCHFORD, aged 23 and 18 respectively, Apparently the DAVIS family was LOUIS' owners, while the PITCHFORDs were MARY ANN's. Further info, in 1870 & 1880, LEMUEL, aka LOUIS, DAVIS was living next door to SAMUEL DAVIS, a wealthy white farmer. Found that in 1850, this same area was owned by EDWARD DAVIS, and his wife REBECCA PITCHFORD. Both SAMUEL and EDWARD DAVIS were sons of BURWELL DAVIS who had a will probated in 1846 and left land to both of them. Additionally of interest is that when JUDY DAVIS got married to her first husband in 1871, GEORGE CHEEK, the marriage took place at the home of SAMUEL DAVIS. These are probably the original owners of LOUIS DAVIS.
BURWELL DAVIS was the son of PETER DAVIS, d. 1804 Warren, and PETER was also the father of MATTHEW DAVIS, d. 1827, who was the father of PETER R. DAVIS, d. 1850, the owner of my other DAVIS line, TRIP, ESTHER, THOMAS, SUMMER, JAMES & JERRY.
As further info, in the 1811 Warren Co., Tax List, for Shocco District, the family of ELIZABETH DAVIS, widow of GILES DAVIS, who died in 1809, was living next door to my ancestor, THOMAS GREEN, FCP. These families would have been the ones where LEMUEL LOUIS DAVIS may have come from.
Note:   LOUIS and MARY ANN DAVIS were found in the 1880 census living 2 doors from the GREEN family i
