Notes
a. Note:   HENRY BUSTER was a slave on the Sneed Plantation. He was most likely the slave who was given to RICHARD SNEED by his father STEPHEN SNEED in his 1821 Will:
I give and bequeath to my son RICHARD SNEED one negro boy HENRY son of RACHEL, one negro girl AGNES one negro boy HARRY purchased of THOMAS JORDAN.
(See file of STEPHEN SNEED -1756-1821, for further information)
(Also of interest is that AGNES' first daughter was named RACHEL, b.1825, according to the RICHARD SNEED BIBLE; it could be that both HENRY & AGNES were children of the RACHEL named in STEPHEN SNEED's will)
HENRY was mostly associated with NANCY SNEED, another slave, as being the father of 3 of her children, and a 4th, BETSY SNEED-PRICE, was known as his daughter as listed on her death certficate where he was called, HENRY BURTON. There is a Granville County Freedmen's Marriage record for HENRY BURTON to HENRIETTA RAGLAND in1862, but by 1870, his wife was named HANNAH, age 30, which at least one child's record indicates her maiden name was BRIDGER. I don't know if she was the same person as HENRIETTA, but even if she was it is apparent from the ages of the the older children that there was another wife who gave birth to them since the oldest was born in 1854. It is likely that there was another wife for HENRY between 1850 and 1862, who was likely deceased by the time of his 1862 marriage since the children were living with him by 1870.
HENRY BURTON appears in the 1867 North Carolina Voters Registration List as living in Granville County, Henderson District.
