Note: Email from Morris Clarke (clarkem@email.unc.edu) , 7/23/2002 -12:52 P.M. Subject: W K KEARNEY (KEARNY) Deloris, I have some good news for you! Hubbard, spelled exactly that way, was listed in W K Kearny's 1829 Slave Book. This is what is entered: Slaves to giving to my children by there Grandmother Alston Melvy's Family 1804 (born) Melvy Lucy Born 1820 May Hubbard Born 1827 Dec Delia Born 1831 Feb Frank Born 1836 It appears that W K Kearny married Mariah Alston in July 1810. The parents of Mariah Alston were Lt. Col. William Alston and Martha Hardy. W K Kearny indicated that my ancestor Charity was born Sept 1785; therefore, it is unlikely that our families are connected since Melvy was owned by the Alston prior to being owned by the Kearny's. (Note: This info was found in the Manuscripts Dept, Library of UNC at Chapel Hill, Southern Historical Collection. #4521 ANNIE BLACKWELL THORNE PAPERS).
