a. Note:   r father had a total of at least 3 wives, Nannie's mother was his 2nd wife Mary Frances Green. Nannie's father was Walter Sneed, the son of a rich landowner who also owned many slaves and the slave named Nancy, from the Sneed Plantation, in what was then Granville County,North Carolina. Mary Frances Green was a descendant of Thomas Green, who was freed by his slave owner in 1791, and all indications point to him as being the son of that same owner, Samuel Wiliams. How ironic it is that Nannie named her youngest son for two of his ancestors, one from each side. Nannie was born May 19, 1892 in Halifax County. Her mother died at a young age and Nannie married Robert Williams in 1909. They lived mostly in Warren County, until their later years when both became ill and lived at times in Boston, MA and Queens, NY with various of their children. There were 10 children who survived to adulthood:Edgar, Robert Leslie, Willie Royster, John Thomas, Francis Marion, Alonzo Eugene, Nathaniel Cleotha, Samuel Sneed, Julia Myre, and Ruth Mae Williams. Nannie was in Warrenton NC when she died Aug 19, 1978. She was buried Aug 24, 1978 at Shocco Baptist Church, in Warrenton, NC.
