a. Note:   ohn Lyon and Catherine Hourston. As a child, she lived on the family farm 'Cairston' in Stromness with her parents and brothers and sisters John, Thomas, Betsy, Margaret. William, James, Isabella and Isaac.
  On 24 March 1864, Mary Lyon married James Clouston, a stonemason. They lived lived at 'Whitehall' cottage in Stenness. Mary and James had seven children: Mary (born in 1865), James William (born in 1867), John (born in 1868), George Clark (born in 1874), Margaret (born in 1875) and Thomas Lyon (born in 1877).
