a. Note:   ms unusual as there is already a Mary born in 1847?
  Mary Clouston was the daughter of Edward Clouston and Christian Leask. She was baptised at Stenness on 7 May 1809.
  Mary married her cousin, Thomas Clouston, at Stenness on 11 February 1832. They they had 7 children: Mary, Thomas, Margaret, James, Christina, Jessie and Robina. The family lived at West Netherbigging in Stenness.
  Mary Clouston is recorded in the 1851 census as a "landed roprieton wife" and she lived with her husband Thomas and their children at Netherbigging.
  Mary and her daughter Jessie both died from fever on 23 March 1861, and they are buried together in Stenness Cemetery.
