When he grew to adulthood he was married to Sarah Jackson, whose own natural father had died and her mother had remarried a man named Dancer, leading to considerable confusion as to the real birth name of Sarah, for she had a number of half siblings bearing the surname of Dancer living in and around Ensley Township. It has been something of a task to develop the family as it eventually evolved, and some of the dates still remain obscure. It is said that when Sarah's cousin Hattie Wiggin came to visit her in Ensley Township she came to meet and know James' older brother Thomas which eventually led to their marriage. Just how Hattie and Violet were cousins, it had not been determined whether through her mother or father, but it is of little real importance.
Note:   James had been born in Milford, Marysburgh Twp, Prince Edward County, Ontario and was brought to Michigan as a baby in approximately 1854, where he settled in what was then Croton Township of the the
