Claire was born in 1933 in Reading, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Sylvester and Margaret Henry. She graduated from Reading High School in 1951 and worked for several years in the office of the Berkshire Knitting Mills.
Claire married Stewart Sonen in 1959 and soon afterward, they moved to Utica, PA where they raised three children; Chris (now of Piedmont, SC), Heidi (Crozet, VA) and Kurt (Ann Arbor, MI). Claire quickly settled into farm life and became an enthusiastic chef and gardener, known for her vegetables, flowers, and blueberries. Claire enjoyed working for several years as a teacher’s aide at Utica Elementary School.
She enjoyed travel and camping with her husband and they were avid members of the AirStream RV club, participating in rallies across the U.S.
Claire moved to Crozet, VA in 2012 and spent her final years there. She was a kind soul who had a smile for everyone she met and she marveled in the beauty of nature. She is survived by her husband, three children, eight grandchildren, and Tiger, her favorite pussycat.
