a. Note:   Samuel G. Rhodes was enrolled in the Union Army on 15 Aug 1862. He mustered in on 17 Nov 1862 in Owensboro, Ky, and mustered out on 23 Aug 1865 in Louisville, Ky. As a corporal he was transferred from Company "L" on 1 Apr 1864. He was appointed corporal on 30 Jul 1865. [Source: Report of Adjutant general of the state of Kentucky, Civil War, Volume 1, Union].

  which shows Samuel G. Rhodes in Company E of the 12th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment, the Union side, as ranking-in as 7th Corporal, and ranking-out as Corporal. [Film Number M386 roll 22].
  Note: Samuel's brother, (Private) Benjamin L. Rhodes, also served in Company E of the 12th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment, the Union side.
  After the war Samuel lived near his brother, Benjamin, as shown in the 1870 US Census - Kentucky - Ohio County - Bartlett District - Page 326 - Dwelling 168. The census was taken on 24 June 1870 and shows:
