Note: 23 April 2005: From Sharon Mills of Martinsville, IN (mills@@rnetinc.net): I have seen Catherine's last name as Richards and Richardson in separate summaries of Ohio Co KY marriages. The 1800 tax list taken from July to November of 1800 shows no Richards or Richardsons in Ohio County in that year. Ohio Co had been formed from Hardin Co in 1799. There were 22 Richards and 34 Richardsons of various spellings on the tax list, see Richards research file. The 1814 tax list for Ohio Co KY shows Thomas Richards with one white tithe. It appears he had no taxable property. 1820 Ohio Co KY census index shows: 11 32 Richards, Thomas pg0003a.txt An Eliza Stewart was married to Nathaniel Howard on Oct 17 1822 in Ohio Co by Wm Hart, who also married Harvy Mills and Catherine Richards. Some marriage records from OHIO County in the Old Days, Marriage Records, 1799-1840: Elizabeth Richard and Henry Crowe, Feb 24, 1820, Benj Kelley. Edward Marlow. p 175 William Richard and Nancy Beardon July 15, 1826. ancil Hall. Elijah Phipps p 175 Catherine Richards and Harvey Mills March 1, 1827. Wm Hart Craven Peyton Matilda Richards and Gallsburry Huff, September 01, 1818. Nall Overale. E Marlowe Thomas Richards and Elizabeth Huff October 17, 1829. Wm Long Goldsbury Huff (no Richardsons) There are some records on line, which may help. Given only what I have seen so far, I suspect that Catherine Richards was the child of Thomas Richards. He apparently had no property and may have died young. If so, some one raised Catherine. We need to consider how she relates to Wm Hart and Craven Peyton. There are several potential siblings among the marriage records. That's as much as I know. If she turns out to be a Richardson, we might consider the Richardsons who were in Spencer Co near the Millses. In fact, Joe has a Richardson cousin. If people went back and forth on the Salt River, as it appears they did, perhaps Richardsons went to Spencer Co from Ohio Co also. [end Sharon's info)
