Irene Kaub & Mildred Underwood letters & notes:
John & Julia joined the Tauy Baptist Church on Nov. 2, 1921. John had joined the Baptist Church when a young man. Julia joined the Tauy WCTU on Aug. 1927.
Julia was always very much interested in her family teaching her children the ways of the Bible and against the use of strong drink. None of her children used strong drink or tobacco. Her faith and courage through the many trials and hardships is a loving example to those she left behind.
Julia passed away Feb. 5, 1956 and was laid to rest in Stony Point Cemetery beside her husband Feb. 8, 1956.

 Julia Scheer Mulvany's notes:
"I was born in Clay County, KS April 27, 1875. Don't know if this is right as my mother's papers were all burned. We moved to Nebraska in 1882 and then to Iowa in 1889. Joined the 5th. Ave. Methodist church in May 1892. Was married to John Calvin Mulvany June 14, 1892 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Came to Baldwin, Kansas Dec. 11, 1899 in covered wagon (from Glenwood, Iowa). Took 9 days to make the trip. We had heating stove in our wagon and gathered firewood along the way. We had with us a coup of Banty hens which kept us in fresh eggs. Our daughter Irene broke her arm on the way when she fell on the rough frozen ground. We had three children at that time -- Frances, Irene and Fred. We settled near Baldwin, Kansas. Three girls were born, Mary and Evelyn are living, Cecil died at 3 months of age. We then went to (Lincoln) Nebraska. Lived there 2 years. Our son, Mark, was born there. We came back and lived near Baldwin again. A little girl, Mildred, was born in 1910. We moved to Ottawa in 1911 and have lived around Ottawa every since. Cornelia Marie (born) Oct. 3, 1913 and died Oct 7, 1913, only 4 days. ( My husband and I) joined the Tauy Baptist Church in 1921. My husband died Dec. 11, 1923." (also see notes for John C. Mulvany on this story)

Helen Irene Kaub -- See files for the collection of Irene Kaub's stories about her life and the Mulvany family. Condensed from her stories: (RE: Julia) Her faith and courage through the many trials and hardships is a living example to those she left behind.
Julia Scheer Mulvany claimed to be a cousin of Frank and Jesse James, and she said she was related to Abraham Lincoln. Both these claims are unconfirmed.
Julia's grandmother was Susannah Jane James. Susannah's uncle was Jesse Ballard James, the brother of Joseph James. It is POSSIBLE that it was the family joke to say they were related to Jessie James to impress the young children and they just didn't say it wasn't the notorious Jesse Woodson James.
If she was related to Abraham Lincoln, it was a very distant relation. Even Abe Lincoln did not know his father's ancestry, so it is hard to prove this claim.
 -----
Mildred Underwood -- Mother, Julia Scheer Mulvany, was about 5 ft. and weighed about 90 lbs. She had blond hair. My father, John Mulvany was 6ft. 2, weighed 220 and had black hair. Floyd Edward Kaub looks just like I remember him.
 -----
Elroy J. Kaub: Julia, was a petite, a lean woman with baby blue eyes. Her fine hair was medium brown in her youth, but silvery gray in later years and she wore it pulled back in a "bun" most of he life. In later years, she wore her hair short and permed in tight curls. She also wore round, gold wire rimmed glasses in her later years.
She had a rough life, never had much money or possessions, but was a very strong, loving woman. She lost all of her teeth around the age of 40yrs., and never had the money to buy false teeth, so she managed without them.
Julia was an interesting woman. She taught her children to read using her bible. She loved flowers and baking lemon pies was her specialty. In later years, when her furniture needed a "lift" she painted some things red. She was very opposed to alcohol. She had a canary at one time.
She was a lively old woman who loved to travel around the countryside in her one seated buggy that was pulled by her trusted old horse, "Gyp". From the Ottawa area, she would travel with Gyp as far as Michigan Valley or into Miami Co. to visit relatives. When Gyp died, Julia didn't drive anymore for she didn't think she could find another horse as gentle as Gyp and she knew that she was getting too old to handle a spirited horse.

"Stony Point Church and Cemetery and Historic Hickory Point" by Ruth Endacott Brown:
Pg. 40: Stony Point's church was Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church. On Sept. 29th, 1860 the church organization was formed in a private home.
Pg. 41: The land upon which the (Stony Point) church now stands and which the cemetery occupies was acquired by purchase, September 3rd, 1873 ... On November 18th, 1883 the church was dedicated."

Bill Mulvany: When Grandma Julia Mulvany lived in that old house (on Underwood St., Ottawa, KS) she paid $2.00 per month rent. They raised it to $4.00 and she thought she would have to move.
