D. Smith, 1834. In possession of Joe W. Pendleton, Ft. Worth, Texas. The Bible came to him from his father, and grandfather. The Bible was brought from Louisiana to Texas about 1900. It was originally owned by Mr. Pendleton's great grandmother, Francis Rozena Murray who married first Captain Lewis T. Knight and second, Dr. Joseph Wells Pendleton. Photostats of the record were presented to the Society September, 1961. Mr. Pendleton says "my great great-grandfather, Book I, page 428, Richmond, Rhode Island Oct. 15, 1780, Zebulon Pendleton married Thankful Wells." Pendleton died June 4th 1850 at 35 minutes past 11 AM Tuesday at W. C. Kendricks Elias H. Murray her father died in April 1855, aged 53 years Mrs. C. A. Lewis wife of Rev: H. T. Lewis died in Midleburg Fla. Feb. 23 in the 34 year of yer age. She was born in St. Tammany Parish, La. Mrs. L. R. Jennings, daughter of Dr. J. W. Pendleton died Apr. 20th, 1900 Note from Letter written by Thelma Pendleton Smith My Grandfather Joseph Wells Jr. (illegable) Mississippi June 1848. He fought in the Confederate Army at age 14. Lost his thumb at Vicksburg. Later was paroled because he was too young to be in the Army. Late he joined the 38 Mississippi Calvery. After the war, he settled in Louisana and then moved on to Texas. He was a representative in Texas like his Great Grandson Randal Pendleton. Note from letter from Joe W Pendleton Grandpa's Mother died in 1850 and his father in 1852. Joseph Wells Pendleton was rased by a cousin, Charles Folsom. Grandpa was raised on a large plantation on the Pearl River in Mississippi. When he joined the army, he was sent to Vicksburg, Miss. ...... I was very close to our grandpa, having been near him since I can remember and was at his death bed when he died with pneumonia in 1916. He his buried near dad.
