  Mark Greer was the son of John Greer, who was born in Antrim County, Ireland and Mary Critchfield Casteel. Mark married Matilda Shaw on November 6, 1845 in Knox County, Ohio. Matilda was the daughter of William Shaw and Nancy [Waddle] Shaw. Mark was a storekeeper and he and Matilda raised their family in Knox County. Their children were John, Amanda, George, Elizabeth ‘Lybia', Adelia, Edith May, Ulysses Grant, Edward Orlando and Albert Eugene Greer. Mark died in 1871 at fifty-two years of age and is laid to rest in the Brinkhaven Cemetery. Matilda continued to live and raise their children in Knox County. She died in St. Paul, Fayette County, Illinois at the age of seventy-nine, while staying with one of her children and was laid to rest by her husband in the Brinkhaven Cemetery. (findagrave.com)
