DAILY REVIEW February 22, 1919 JOHN ATTEBERRY DEAD IN SOUTH Word was received this morning by W.P. Davis on east Main Street of the death of John J. Attebery, an old resident of Macon County, in Mobile, Alabama, a few days ago. He would have been seventy-seven years old had he lived until May. Most of his life was spent in Macon County. His parents died when he was quite small and he was reared by an uncle, Mr. Thompson, who resided near where the Walker Station now is, long before the Illinois Central Railroad was built. When coming to Decatur he would have to cross the swamp prairies between the Sangamon timber and Willow Branch timber before daylight on account of the green headed flies.
Mr. Attebery and Mr. Davis had been friends for over forty years. About fifty years ago Mr. Attebery bought a farm just east of Macon near Middlesworth, which he owned at the time of his death besides other land in Western Illinois and oil fields in Oklahoma, on which is a producing well. Mrs. Attebery died in September.
He has lived in Nevada, Mo. for several years. Mr. Attebery is survived by two sons, Otis who lives in California and Jesse in Alabama. One son, Elmer, died several years ago. Mr. Attebery was a member of the Masonic Order at Macon, which will probably have charge of the funeral service which will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Macon Cemetery.
FORMER MACON MAN DIES IN ALABAMA J.J. Attebery, a resident of Macon until 8 to 10 years ago, died in his home in Alabama at 8:30 Thursday evening, according to word which his friends received on Friday. The cause of the death was not known but as Mr. Attebery was past 70 years of age it is thought that infirmities of old age may have been the reason.
The body will arrive in Macon Sunday morning, and funeral services will be conducted in the Methodist church there at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in Macon Cemetery.
