 D. A. Newman petitioned for the guardianship of Josie Woolsey age 14 on 15 Dec 1882. Her father was living, but she had no legal guardian. She had ca. $50 coming from the estate of her mother Rachel A. Woolsey. Josie had selected Newman. Wilson Campbell and James M. Tinker signed the bond. Delmar Newman petitioned the court to hand of the personal property she had coming, which was needed for keeping house. She had a cow, a sewing machine, bed and bedding, etc. Later Disbro Wantland (her husband) petitioned the same. Property was from her brother Llewellyn Morton. Final report was 10 Dec 1886, when she received $45. She signed as Josie Wantland.
  Josephine inherited the farm in Otega Twp. from Lewellyn Morton after his death (communication from Nellie Wantland Freeman to Ralph A. Wantland). Lewellyn had inherited the farm from his mother, Rachel Ford Morton Woolsey.

  Resided with daughter, Nellie May Wantland Freeman in Decatur from 1943 until 1948. Intitutionalized in Jacksonville Hospital with dementia.
 My father, Ralph Wantland, told me that (circa 1950) he went to the hospital with his father, Clarence. Dad stayed at the car and when Clarence returned, he was upset because his mother did not recognize him.

 Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Wantland, 82, of 337 North Jasper Street who died at 9 pm Saturday will be held Tuesday in Hunter funeral home, Vandalia, with burial in Vandalia. Friends may call at Brintlinger's funeral home until 9 pm Monday.
