 Archie Highland
  Archie Fredrick Highland passed away Oct. 15, 2008, at home in Somerset, Ky., surrounded by his wife and loving family after a brief illness.
  He was born Aug. 3, 1915, in Des Moines, Iowa.
  He is survived by his wife, Ada Highland, Somerset; children, John (and Susan) Highland and Martha Geiger of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters Mary Yaggy and Margaret Lockwood of Des Moines; grandchildren Jim (and Michelle) McGinnis, Franklin, Ind., Robin Engaldo, San Diego, Calif., Tom (and Dana) McGinnis, Des Moines, Garrett Highland, Mesa, John Highland, Carlyle, Iowa, Robert (and Jenn) Highland, Des Moines, Tara Pearl, Omaha, Neb., Stephen Kline, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and David Joss and Doug Joss, Plano, Texas; and 11 great grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Gaston Spencer
 and John Nelson Highland; brothers Glancy, Robert, Wayne, Byron and Lee Highland; and wife Dorothy Emmaline Highland, whom he married in 1953 and who died in 2001.
  He was employed by Meredith Publishing Co., Des Moines, for 42 years and was also a Warrant officer in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
  In 1976, he moved to Cape Coral, Fla., where he was active at Faith Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in forming the We Care Program, was active in the Meals on Wheels and many other volunteer organizations for 26 years. Most recently he moved to Somerset and joined Pisgah Presbyterian Church.
  The family is requesting memorials be sent to the We Care Program at Faith Presbyterian Church, Cape Coral, Fla. or to the local Hospice Service, in lieu of flowers.
  A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church.
