Notes
a. Note:   Wallace, Sarah (Cupps) 1835-1922
 Obituary of Mrs. Sarah Wallace
Sarah Cupps was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania November 18, 1835, and departed this life September 1, 1922, aged eighty-six years, nine months, and thirteen days. She had not been well for several years, being a suffer of rheumatism but was able to be up and around in her own home. She had a bad spell with her heart a week which left her quite weak, but death came quite suddenly Friday evening at six, twenty.
She was united in marriage to Charles Wallace in 1852. Their first few years were spent in Pennsylvania coming then to Jasper County. They were among the first settlers. Their home has always been in or near Vandalia. Eleven children were born to this union, nine are left to mourn the loss of mother. One child died in infancy, and an invalid son June 11, 1922. The husband and father answered the final summons nineteen years ago July 20, 1903.
Much could be said of this life which was shed with more than the ordinary care and sacrifice. She was of a generous and cheerful disposition, always ready to help in any way and always a loving mother. The father, being one of the first volunteers in the Civil War left the mother the cares and responsibilities of home and little ones during the Rebellion. Such loving care was weak given the blind invalid son, his wishes always considered before her own. For many years her main thoughts and work were for his comfort and he who was called such a short time before. She now has gone for her reward.
The six sons and three daughters living are Henry Wallace of Coon Rapids, George, Charles, and William Wallace of Des Moines: Frank and Sim Wallace, of Runnells: Mrs. F. L. White, of Bovina, Colorado: Mrs. Ernest Waltz, of Colfax: and Mrs C. T. English, of near Praire City. Besides these children she leaves thirty-seven grandchildren, Twenty great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held Sunday afternoon in the home by John Parks. The six sons served as pall bearers. Interment in Vandalia cemetary. - Prairie City
