Notes
a. Note:   Samuel at 19 years old enlisted in Capt. Henry Ulreys' Company of the 1st Regiment of Ohio Volunteers commanded by Colonel Duncan McArthur on April 30, 1812. In August 1812 he was wounded at the battle of Maguaga in Michigan. He was then held prisoner of war for a while after General Hulls' surrender of Detroit. Samuel was discharged as a Corporal May 7, 1813. He never fully recovered from his wounds. He served as Sheriff and Justice of The Peace in Ross Co., Ohio. In 1836 the family moved to Fulton Co., Illinois. In 1849 Samuel moved to Polk Co., Iowa. He sometimes taught school in the winter.
