Born in Gallatin Co., KY on his father's farm; assoiated with the White's Run Bapist Church; enlisted in the 4th Kentucky Cavalry and brought his own horse; served until war's end; his brother gave him a fox-dog after the war, which won a silver collar as best at some point. He bought a farm Clearview, near the Kentucky and Ohio rivers in Carroll Co. KY, and I believe this is t property he is shown on in that county's landowner map of 1888. He was very active in CW reunions- a number of participation ribbons are in the possession of Kari Olson, Wauwatosa, WI (his great granddaughter). She also has a pin made from a Mexican silver dollar, which he reportedly received as payment for his war service.
His grand nephew, Robert Souther Bond, recounted that his derringer and knife that he retained at time of surrender had been passed down. Robert Souther Bond had the Sharp's pistol and James Andrew Bond had the knife. The Sharp's pistol, Model 1857 four bbl. derringer, was passed to William Randall Bond by Anita O. Bond, Robert Souther Bond's widow.

After reading in the April issue that the first prize collar of the State of Kentucky was won in Madison County, I thought I would write you that I have a silver collar with large letters on the outside: "THE CHAMPION COLLAR OF KENTUCKY". On the inside are the words "WON BY LOUD FOXHOUND, MARCH 1867, OWNED BY R.L. BOND." During the Civil War, my father, John C. Bond, Sr. raised two foxhounds named Loud and Grey. When his younger brother, R.L. Bond, returned home from the Fourth Kentucky Calvary, father gave him the two hounds to catch up with his foxhunting. I also have a picture of R.L. Bond holding Loud and Grey with two other gyps, taken in the Sharon Baptist Church yard in 1867. R. Frank Bond, son of R.L. Bond, inherited this prize collar, and shortly before his death, sent it to John C. Bond, 'Fox Hunter', for him to enjoy. Since the death of John C. Bond, this collar is in possession of R.L. bond's grandson, Rev. Robert Bond Hays, Jr. of Buford, Ga."
