Two sisters, Etje Catherine and Antje Catherine, having names that probably sounded very similar, married John Backers, and it is probable, given the only two census ages of this John Backer's wife being closer to 1834 than 1839, that Etje Catherine Folkers married a man called John J. Backer, a baker, and Antje Catherine Folkers married a man called Jan Harms Backer, a blacksmith.]
  John died in 1872, and Etje remarried Henry Hinil. 1880 finds her and four of her children with him, and well as two foster children from his first marriage and four new children by him.
