Note: Waterloo Daily Courier, Sep 16, 1951, p18: Vinton, Ia. --- Mrs. E.E. Shafer, 83, a resident of Benton county all her adult life, Friday evening at the Lohr rest home, Vinton, after years of ill health; born Feb. 20, 1868, in Wisconsin to Mr. and Mrs. Even Hatch and came with her parents to LaPorte City when a child; married to E.E. Shafer July 2, 1902, and they lived on a farm in Monroe township for 38 years; he died in 1939 and the widow retired here some years ago; attended the Garrison Methodist church and was made a life member of the W.S.C.S. of that church; survived by a daughter and son and five stepchildren: Mrs. Leslie A, Moore, Mt. Auburn; Floyd W. Shafer, Stuart, Ia.; Dr. Lee Shafer, Davenport; Ray and Mrs. Alfred Lindeman, Waterloo; Mrs. C.L. Blakely, Alton, Ia.; and George, Middletown, O.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one brother, Lynn Hatch of Farahsville, O.; four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death; rites Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Fry-Holland funeral home here; burial in Evergreen cemetery.
