Well Okey the family all send congratulations. I think you quite a fortunate young man. I have known Julia from early girl-hood, and she has been in our home often, and I think her a lovely christian character, with a very amiable disposition. I wish you all the happiness and prosperity that belongs to this life. Dr. & Aunt Addie felt very much benefited from drinking the Lithia Water. Ella & Harvey are still in Minneapolis having a fine time. Walton wrote "Mother just think five of us 'kids' together today, we are all so happy." I hear that Hubert has come to Milton, porr boy my heart goes out to him in tenderest love. I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Terrys illness, trust she will soon be better. Now Okey in regard to the batteries, will return them by express if the old one can't be fixed, just hold it there, of course. Harvey didn't think about all this trouble for Walton was informed when he bought it that it could be replaced by a new battery anywheres. I certainly appreciate your kindness and hope it will be in our power to do something for you. Excuse haste, with Love and good wishes and a prayer for God's richest blessing upon the coming event, your loving cousin. Mollie E. Hampton Natchitoches Times, Friday, 24 Aug 1956: O. W. Spalding Dies August 15 in Natchitoches by R. J. McLeroy Mr. Okey Wallace Spalding, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away at the family residence on Mill Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, on August 15, 1956. Born September 5, 1871, he was the son of Dan and Kate Spalding and was married to Julia Frances Bond of Carrolton [Carrollton], Kentucky, on September, 1905. Mr. Spalding was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Natchitoches and a consecrated Cristian [Christian] for many years of his life. He had been ill for several years previous to his death, and seemed to grow in grace and fortitude during all this time. A Southern Gentleman of the Old School type, he was beloved by people of all ages who knew him. To know him was to love him as he had a warm and cheerful outlook on life that was inspiring to everyone. Mr. Spalding was a resident of Natchitoches since 1936, sharing the home of his sister in law and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Pierce. He loved the old town of Natchitoches and spent many years in our lovely city after his retirement. Other than his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Margaret Catherine, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and a niece, Mrs. Ed Inman of Lexington, Kentucky. Funeral services were conducted at the First National Funeral Home with the Rev. J. E. Simmons, pastor and a former pastor, Rev. Troy Wheeler, officiating. Interment was in the American cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Welch, Milford Green, Fred Yancy, Harold Collier, Stacy Williams and Dr. Henry Parker. American Cemetery, Natchitoches, LA: SPALDING, Julia B. ( 1877 / 1968) Same stone: Okey W.
