 Death of Prominent Citizen
One of the Old Residents of Crittenden Passes Away
Last Sunday evening at 9 o'clock D.W. Ralston passes away, aged 69 years.
Mr. Ralston, better known as Billy, lived in the Caldwell Springs neighborhood. He was taken with typhoid fever and owing to the severity of the attack and his age he could not survive.
His remains were laid to rest at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at Caldwell Springs. The funeral service was preached by Rev. W.R. Gibbs. Quite a large gathering was at the services, estimated at from 250 to 300 people.
Uncle Billy Ralston was a consitent christian and had been a member of the Caldwell Springs church for 37 years. He leaves a wife and eight children. His first wife was a Miss Boyd. His second was Mrs. M.J. Greenlea, a sister of Judge James P. Pierce, of this place. The first wife of Judge Pierce was Billy Ralston's sister and so they were double brothers-in-law. Of the eight children of Mr. Ralston there is only one unmarried, Mr. Cash Ralston, of St. Louis, Mo. He is a conductor on a street car [same occupation and city as George Collin Pierce, son of James P. Pierce - one got the other a job?]. Mrs. Carrie Crayne, a daughter, lives in Paducah. The other children live in Crittenden county. Mrs. Ella Shadowen, Joseph Ralston, Charlie Ralston, David Ralston, Edwin Ralston and Ellis Ralston.

 Letter from Los Angeles, Cal.
 Los Angeles Cal., Sept. 2
Editor Record-Press: --- I have thought many times of writing and giving you a sketch of Los Angeles, California, though I can't do it justice. I can say, however, it is one of the healthiest and lovliest places in the world. It is the garden spot of the world. We can raise garden products all the year round. The grass is always green and the flowers bloom all the time. We have no rain except during the winter season. The days are warm from about 2 o'clock until about 5 in the evening, then it is cool and one can sleep nicely - a great improvement on Kentucky. I like old Kentucky, but don't think I should care to ever make it my home again. I have relatives there that I should like to visit - my father, Stanton Pierce, my brothers, Judge Pierce, Ahart Pierce and George Pierce.
I have also other friends there I should like to see, but I hardly expect to ever visit Kentucky, for I am getting old, but I often think of my dear friends and relatives there and live in hope of seeing them some time in the futures.
 [signed] Mrs. Mary Ralston.
