  PIONEER HISTORY OF CAMDEN TOWNSHIP, LORAIN COUNTY, OHIO (By Dr. F. E. Weeks, Kipton, Ohio):
 SHAFER, DAVID, a son of Lambert, and grandson of Lambert Sr., a Revolutionary soldier, of "Mohawk Dutch" breed, was born March 3, 1802. His father came to Florence about 1810, but went back at the
 outbreak of the War of 1812. About 1815 he came to Florence again with his family. His wife was Sophia Lamb. He lived in a home, quite a long distance from the road. Lambert Shafer had three sons,
 John, David and Christopher, and a daughter Nancy, the wife of Richard Brewer, and the mother of the well-known numerous Brewer family.
 David Shafer married, April 6, 1828, Hannah Sherarts, daughter of George Sherarts, of Vermillion. In 1848 he bought land and lived on the west side of the road, north of Ray Green’s. He died Oct. 24,
 1854. His widow married John Haynes, and died April 9, 1877, having been born in 1811.
 The Shafer children were:
 Henry, born June 18, 1830, went west.
 Sarah, born June 18, 1832, married, Nov. 27, 1850, Kimball Bates, of Camden.
 Sophia, born Feb. 13, 1835, married Randall Hayden, and lived in Toledo, Ohio.
 George, born Sept. 29, 1838, married Antoinette Bronson, of Camden, lived on the Alvan Gibson farm, then went to Iowa, where he died.
 James, born July 24, 1841, married Polly Jane Armstrong, of Camden, lived south of Wakeman on the river road, and died June 18, 1908, from lock jaw.
 Theodore, born May 6, 1845, married Harriet Ann Marks, of Wakeman, and lived in Washington.
 Mary Jane, born Oct. 1, 1848, married Alfred Myron Tennant, of Camden Oct. 4, 1871, died Dec. 9, 1878.
 Charles, born Sept. 3, 1850, married Jennie Chrysler, of Wakeman, and had a second wife, when he died Jan. 22, 1920. His farm is the one owned on the east side of the road by Ray Green.
 Alice, born Aug. 7, 1853, married Arthur Linton.
