a. Note:   Thomas' father died in 1788, when he was only 3. He traveled to Monongalia Co., VA (now WV) approximately 1808 with his brothers Nathaniel and Elias. There they executed a power of attorney to Dennis Magruder back in Culpeper to sell the land their mother was living on. Perhaps she was getting old and moved in with another relative at that time. They brothers then moved to Shelby Co., KY. The first thing Thomas did was get married.
  Shelby Co., KY loose papers, film 0,259,277: marriage bond of Thomas Magruder and Jane Smith; mentions that she is 21 years of age, bond is by brother-in-law Thomas Hanna 29 Dec 1810.
  Culpeper Co., VA Will Book FF (seen in Culpeper Co.): p. 48, Josiah Magruder, Nathaniel Magruder and Thomas Magruder, all of state of KY sign over to Dennis Magruder, atty a tract of land in Culpeper Co., VA; also signed by clerk of Shelby Co., KY.
