Note: Bio notes: Nickname "Baz" Ubbe Rops, 74, of State Center, died Friday, August 23 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Funeral Mass was held at St Joseph Catholic Church in State Center Monday with Father Claude Norton officiating. Burial was in St Joseph Catholic cemetery. Born December 18, 1916 in Butler County, Washington Township, he was the son of Peter J and Martha E Harken Rops. He received his education in Austinville Public Schools. On July 25, 1941 he was united in marriage to Rita Kielly in St Joseph Catholic Church. He served in WW II in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic. He owned and operated Ubbe's 66 Service Station in State Center for several years. He worked at the West Marshall School district as head custodian from 1968 to 1978 when he retired. He was a member of the State Center Fire Department and the Harlan G Pfantz Post 122 American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Rita of State Cneter, two daughters, Lea M (Mrs Bruce) Doranski of Melbourne and Lisa (Mrs Dave) MacDonald of Waverly; three sisters, Mae Jacobs of Arlington, Margaret (Mrs Robert) Henkel of Austinville and Elizabeth Dietz of Waterloo and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Rops. August 29, 1991 State Center Enterprise.
