a. Note:   Bio notes: Lula Martha Mary Rops, 90, of Austinville, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services were held Tuesday, April 24, at the Christian Reformed Church in Austinville, with burial in West Friesland Cemetery, Ackley. Rev. George McGuire officiated. Lula was born to August and Amelia Amman Brand on Oct. 8, 1910, in rural Hardin County. She attended country school and on Jan. 20, 1932, she married John Rops at Bristow. After her husband's death she was a dedicated staff member of Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington for 14 years. She became a resident of the Presbyterian Home in 1997. Lula enjoyed music and entertaining her family at Sunday dinners. She was a member of the Austinville Christian Reformed Church.
  She is survived by five daughters, Valda Dougan of Iowa Falls, JoAnn Beving and husband, Gene, of Ackley, Betty Lou Harken and husband, Don, of Ackley, Mary Ascher and husband, Junior, of Grundy Center, and Frances Hook and husband, Floyd, of Maryville, Mo.; two sons, Marvin Rops and wife, Jeanette, of Cedar Rapids, and Dennis Rops and wife, LaDonna, of Aplington; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Heitland of Greene; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dietz of Ackley; and two brothers-in-law, Herbert Woodley and Robert Henkel, both of Ackley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1960; an infant son, Leonard; a son-in-law, Arlo Dougan; a daughter-in-law, Verla Rops and a granddaughter, Tresa Rops.
